IILJ Scholars' Conference
One central aim of the IILJ Scholars’ program is to foster scholarship and publication while Scholars are still completing their J.D. The Annual IILJ Scholars’ conference is the focus of this component of the program. At the conference, each 2L and 3L Scholar presents a paper, usually work developed from papers prepared for classes or internships such as the ILC fellowship. The IILJ invites external commentators – usually members of faculty from NYU or other law schools, visiting research fellows, or experts from organizations like the ACLU, Brennan Center or Human Rights Watch – to provide feedback on the papers. This formal commentary is followed by a brief period for questions from student commentators (including 1L Scholars) and the audience at large.
In the months prior to the conference, the IILJ holds weekly or fortnightly informal writing workshops at which students can present drafts and seek advice from the Program Director and IILJ research fellows on developing the papers for presentation.
