Good Governance of Global Sport: Challenges and Opportunities

Dec 3, 2018
2:10pm - 4:00pm

The next and final session of the Hauser Colloquium: The Beautiful Game: Football (Soccer), FIFA and the Governance of Transnational Sport will feature two notable guests: Mary Harvey, an experienced sport governance executive with expertise in sustainability and human rights strategies (as well as a World Cup and Olympic champion); and Arnout Geeraert, an accomplished scholar with experience in the development and analysis of sport governance standards and a particular research focus on the role of the European Union in international sport.

Ms. Harvey will discuss her experience leading the development of the Human Rights Strategy for the United Bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and through engagement with over 70 human rights stakeholders in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Mr. Geeraert will then discuss the range of challenges and opportunities for achieving a universal standard of good governance among international sport federations, including the real and potential role of the EU (through both law and policy) in these efforts.

Questions and dialogue will be welcomed from those in attendance.

The Colloquium takes place in VH 208. To attend, please RSVP to weilersoffice@nyu.edu.
