FIFA & Human Rights

Nov 19, 2018
2:10pm - 4:00pm

The next session of the Hauser Colloquium: The Beautiful Game: Football (Soccer), FIFA and the Governance of Transnational Sport will feature two leading experts on sports, business and human rights: Rachel Davis and Ron Popper. Their presentation will explore the evolution and impact of FIFA’s Human Rights Policy and Advisory Board, in light of serious ongoing concerns about the human rights abuses associated with football and other sports. They will also discuss the role of the recently established Centre for Sport and Human Rights, which brings together an unprecedented alliance of actors to work toward aligning the world of sport with the fundamental principles of human dignity, human rights and labour rights. Questions and dialogue will be welcomed from those in attendance.

Ms. Davis is a member of the FIFA Human Rights Advisory Board, as well as the Managing Director of Shift, an organization that facilitates dialogue, builds capacity and develops new approaches with companies, government, civil society organizations and international institutions to enable them to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights.

Mr. Popper is a former member of FIFA’s Governance Committee, as well as a Trustee and International Advisory Council Member of the Institute for Human Rights and Business and co-chair of the steering group of the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights.

The Colloquium takes place in VH 208. To attend, please RSVP to weilersoffice@nyu.edu.
