NYU Law Jessup team recruiting new members for this year’s competition

The NYU Law Jessup team is recruiting team members for this year’s competition. The Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition focusing on topics within public international law, with over 600 law schools participating worldwide. The NYU team has previously finished in the top 8 worldwide, while picking up a number of individual awards along the way. We are hoping to continue this success at this year’s Northeast Regional and International rounds in Washington DC.

This year’s competition focuses on issues of appropriation of traditional knowledge for commercial purposes and state responsibility for corporate environmental degradation and human rights violations. You can find the 2019 compromis here: https://www.ilsa.org/2018/09/14/jessup-2019-compromis-now-available/

We are seeking dedicated JD (2L or 3L) or LLM students with a strong interest in international law. If you are interested, please send your CV and a short statement of interest to nyujessup2019@gmail.com by Sunday, 14 October, 8pm.

Interviews will be held the following week to assess both your motivation and your oral advocacy skills. You will be required to prepare a short (3-4-minute) oral argument on an issue of international law of your choice. You could also choose to address the first part of the first issue of the compromis (“Rakkab is responsible for the internationally wrongful acts […] because DORTA’s actions are attributable to Rakkab”), from the side of your choice. This is meant to test more your oral presentation than the substance of your argument.

If you have any question, you can send an email to nyujessup2019@gmail.com.
