Harlan G. Cohen will join the IILJ as a Senior Fellow in Fall 2018. Specializing in international law, he has been a part of the Georgia Law faculty since 2007. He now holds the Gabriel M. Wilner/UGA Foundation Professorship in International Law and serves as a Faculty Co-Director of the law school’s Dean Rusk International Law Center.
While at the IILJ, Cohen will continue work on a project that involves exploring and mapping international law’s various communities of practice. His goal is to develop an account of international law as the product of the everyday interactions between the lawyers, advocates, diplomats, experts, and scholars who populate its various corners, from international trade law to the law of armed conflict, international investment law to human rights.
Cohen’s most recent focus though is on international trade. Another current project focuses on the normative narratives that underpin the global trading system and explores how adopting different narratives might reconfigure international economic law while responding to trade law’s discontents.
