World Trade Organization Moot Court Competition
The annual WTO Moot Competition is organized by the European Law Student’s Association (ELSA). The Competition takes the form of a (simulated) hearing according to the rules of the WTO dispute settlement system.
The competition is conducted in two stages, a preliminary Selection Round and a Final Oral Round. Selection for the Final Round, which takes place at the WTO Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, is made on the basis of briefs submitted during the International Written Round.
If selected, the NYU team will compete in Geneva in early May, 2007. The subject of this year's competition is compulsory licensing of pharmaceutical patents under the TRIPS Agreement in the case of a national emergency. For more information, please visit: www.elsamootcourt.org.
The competition is truly international in scope, with selection rounds held in the US, Canada, Europe Latin America, South East Asia, the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and the Middle East.

Selection at NYU
Last year selection was based on a points system. Interested candidates were asked to provide a resume, statement of interest and brief (two page) analysis of the problem. They were awarded points for their experience with the subject and related areas, previous moot court experience, publications and record of legal writing, attendance of courses, clinics and seminars related to lawyering and legal practice, and their analysis of the problem.
